I am sorry for messaging you here (do you read comments?) I tried sending an e-mail to the “contact us” but it said the inbox was full. Such is life.
Perhaps I’ll reach Roseanne, or one of the periphery of characters assuredly by her side at any given moment. Either way, I am a graduate student at the University of Texas in Austin and am currently working on a paper about 3rd Wave Feminism in Girls’ Media and Culture specifically through the lens of Roseanne.
I have to say, I’m surprised by the lack of scholarship on Roseanne (both the show and the actress), and from what I’m reading in her auto-biography, My Lives and also interviews I’ve found with some of the producers of the show, it sounds to me like she was met with a lot of resistance in pursuing her ideas. I literally gasped when Marcy Carsey in the filmed interview said, “She didn’t understand how you behave, and what your job is as a professional on the set, so she was difficult to work with…”
That sounds like a long way of saying, “She didn’t understand a woman’s place.” How awful of her to say!! Unfortunately, outside of her somewhat dated autobiography, there isn’t a lot of text for me to go out and hear her voice about the show and her relationship with producers. I’m very particularly interested in hearing about Roseanne and her relationship with Darlene, and hearing what contributions the actress made to the character (who for many people, see her as a mini-Roseanne).
Either way – hope this reaches someone who can pass on a good word for a junior academic. I think this show still packs a punch, and I’d like to see it re-entered into the lexicon of activist feminism, especially its history, which demonstrated that we are not living a post-feminist society, as even a show about feminism still was hindered by patriarchy!!
If this does by chance, reach her, just let her know I’d love to send her some questions and would be very judicious with her time.

I can feel it too, the light is revealing itself so lovely in my life, just reconnected with a friend I had not seen in 21 years to find out he is now married with 2 wonderful children and is a Rabbi.
