To hear the Republicans describe it, it's because too many working class idiots were given mortgages that they really couldn't afford. Here's the truth: The number one cause of people declaring bankruptcy is because of medical bills. Let me state this simply: If we had had universal health coverage, this mortgage "crisis" may never have happened.
P.S. Having read further the details of this bailout bill, you need to know you are being lied to. They talk about how they will prevent golden parachutes. It says NOTHING about what these executives and fat cats will make in SALARY. According to Rep. Brad Sherman of California, these top managers will continue to receive million-dollar-a-month paychecks under this new bill. There is no direct ownership given to the American people for the money being handed over. Foreign banks and investors will be allowed to receive billion-dollar handouts. A large chunk of this $700 billion is going to be given directly to Chinese and Middle Eastern banks. There is NO guarantee of ever seeing that money again.
P.P.S. From talking to people I know in DC, they say the reason so many Dems are behind this is because Wall Street this weekend put a gun to their heads and said either turn over the $700 billion or the first thing we'll start blowing up are the pension funds and 401(k)s of your middle class constituents. The Dems are scared they may make good on their threat. But this is not the time to back down or act like the typical Democrat we have witnessed for the last eight years. The Dems handed a stolen election over to Bush. The Dems gave Bush the votes he needed to invade a sovereign country. Once they took over Congress in 2007, they refused to pull the plug on the war. And now they have been cowered into being accomplices in the crime of the century. You have to call them now and say "NO!" If we let them do this, just imagine how hard it will be to get anything good done when President Obama is in the White House. THESE DEMOCRATS ARE ONLY AS STRONG AS THE BACKBONE WE GIVE THEM. McCain seemed old and out of date while rattling the Israeli sabre for war with Iran by referencing the Holocaust, which I found to be disturbing and despicable and obsolete, as are all of his militaristic solutions that underline every issue he addresses.
I found Obama to be a lithe thinker who is open to solutions and new thought. I found him to be inclusive in his comments while McCain was exclusive, and had that familiar Republican sneer that is a required accessory for his demographic. McCain was mining the old "compassionate conservative" con, and referencing the author of the failure of our economy right now, whose name was Ronald Reagan. That McCain stands on top of the heap of rubble that Reagan put into economic play and speaks reverentially of him still just says it all!
Trickle down economics is when the rich piss on the poor, and John McCain thinks that's swell. Obama tried to remind Americans of what is morally right and what is morally wrong, and that was fantastic to witness. McCain defends the status quo instead of the moral right.

speaking in public again:
last time with rev. al in st louis(to raise the minimum wage) was an incredible experience in god/action for me. I was rushed by hundreds of people who wanted to touch me to say thank you for acknowledging and honoring the people of the working class. So hungry were these people for a representative voice, however removed, that i was shaken to my core and overwhelmed by compassion, respect, solidarity and admiration for them. I told them I would keep on speaking for them and i will. G-d help the poor people all over the world! G-d help the poor rich people who have profited from the suffering of the poor! Dear Sis:
Like millions of other Americans I need a bail-out in order to stay in my home. The preferable bail out would be in the form of a loan modification from GMAC. I believe that within an hour and a half a 700 billion dollar bail out will be pushed through and announced.
How great a solution if a stipulation of 50% of that 700 billion was used to help millions of Americans like me stay in our homes (although I believe we will need WAY more STIMULUS than that to stave off what is coming.) The trickle UP effect would merely address a small part of the problem.
GMAC like most mortgage companies would rather see a short sale of my house than extend a loan modification to us because it is just as easy for them to make close to the same amount of money. They simply have no incentive to work with us, The American Homeowner.
As credit markets tighten I can't imagine it will be any easier to get a loan modification. Right now they say we make too much money for them to help us (lower middle class folk.) This is where the road hits the rubber. This is the BAIL OUT that our government could provide that would help average Americans like me STAY IN OR HOMES (something they all say they want to help us do!)
"Cynthia McKinny is the only political voice that I am aware of who has addressed this very important issue. I so appreciate her for that.
Offering 30 and 40 year loans while we re-do equity/risk/value is certainly one of the emergency steps our government could take to stablilize the American Family.

Crisis? Yeah? - Some questions for everyone from Johnny:
It's ironic when telling people NOT to panic makes YOU the crazy one!
Could this "crisis" mostly be on paper? That's where the Financial wizards kept all their Science Fiction Future "value and equity" that nobody can find, now, but they were so good at selling and spreading real thin. You know, the place where Bush wanted to put everybody's Social security and retirement funds awhile back? Good Old Wall Street. Welcome to the Shock Market! That's where Bush got Henry Paulson. Or - was it the other way around?
Let's look beneath their house of cards at the foundation that the REAL elitists forget is truly holding everything up. Has everyone quit working at everything? Have the crops stopped growing in the fields? Have the chickens stopped laying eggs? Did the sun get nervous about its future - and decide not to extend any more energy resources our way? Are literal roofs caving in all over the world in response to all that bad paper that was sold and now isn't worth the paper it was printed on? No.
So, the question that remains? Who or what along the whole great fabric that really gets us all from one day to the next is stamping their little feet and wrinkling up their eyebrows and saying that "we" are just too depleted and screwed and it's all going over the falls? What do YOU think? Looks like the rich paper-pushing speculators and double-talkers to me.
How huge are the balls on The Free Marketeers like Paulson, Bush, McCain and all the rest who tell us they HATE taxes while insisting they have to shove the debt catheter further into the peoples' last good vein?

Also, tonight, I went to the Harvey Milk Club meeting. The Harvey Milk Club is THE political club in SF.
In June, they endorsed Pelosi for the primary. Tonight, with about 50 of our campaign workers and volunteers, we convince the Club to vote on rescinding their endorsement of Pelosi and to vote to endorse me. Those votes will take place in early October. (I heard the votes were at least 90% in my favor!) Not one person stood to speak for Pelosi. The Harvey Milk Club is chartered by the DCCC, so their actions tonight are above courageous and I honor the integrity of the members of the club and I was thrilled with the overwhelming response to my campaign and message. My short speech was interrupted about 5 times by standing ovations!
An endorsement for me (because I am not a Democrat) seems a little shaky, but if we can get them to rescind their endorsement of Pelosi, that's huge! My thanks to Denise D'Anne and Catherine Cusick (two officers) for spearheading this effort and to the Club for giving us the opportunity to compete for this very valuable endorsement!

I realized that I am G-d, and this thought means I am clinically insane. the study of kabballah makes one go insane because it makes one understand that there is no seperation between ourselves the earth the cosmos and the most high G-d. to eat!! So here is a quick recipe for a cake in a mug!!!
One day, when you're eating this cake to your hearts
content, you'll be thanking me for this recipe!!!!!
And we all fall off the diet wagon every now and then!!!!
DANGEROUS CHOCOLATE CAKE-IN-A-MUG
1 coffee mug
4 Tbsp. cake flour (plain, not self-rising)
4 Tbsp. sugar
2 Tbsp. cocoa
1 egg
3 Tbsp. milk
3 Tbsp. oil
Small splash of vanilla
3 Tbsp. chocolate chips, optional
Add dry ingredients to mug, mix well with a fork.
Add egg, mix thoroughly.
Pour in milk and oil and vanilla, mix well.
Add chips, if using.
Put mug in microwave, and cook for three minutes
on 1000 watts.
Cake will rise over top of mug--do not be alarmed!
Allow to cool a little; tip onto a plate if desired.
Eat!
(This can serve two if you want to feel slightly more
virtuous.)

We the people must now seize the time! We have always had the capability of determining our own destiny, but for various reasons, the people failed to elect the leaders who provided the correct political will.
There was always some corporate or private special interest that stood in the way of the public good. And they always seemed to have the power of the purse to throw around and influence public opinion or our elected officials.
The very foundation of the U.S. economy is crumbling underneath our feet. This represents a unique moment in U.S. history and we must now seize the time for self-determination--for health care, education, ecological wisdom, justice, and all the policies that will make a difference in the lives of the people including an end to all wars, including the drug war!
The crisis was staved off for a time for some of our major finance engines when they were able to obtain bridge funding from certain sovereign wealth funds. That option grows increasingly dim as The Federal Reserve is becoming the lender of last resort. This means that the people are becoming the owners of the primary instruments of U.S. capital and finance.
This now means that the people have a say in how these instruments are to be used and what their priorities ought to be. The people should now have more say in how their tax dollars are spent and what the priorities of government an the public sector must be. We the people must now set our demands to ensure and promote the public good.
Now, as we ponder the importance of this moment to do good and serve the needs of the people, some politicians have already figured out their answer for us: win or steal the next election, prepare for more war, and leave it to others to try and figure out what to do next.
While banks are failing all around us and the U.S. taxpayer is drenched with news of billion dollar bailouts for *selected* companies, the Congress, which has utterly failed in its twin responsibilities of setting policy and Executive Branch oversight, plans to adjourn instead of setting new policies; lessening the impact of the economic freefall on innocent victims; or stopping war, expansion of war, new war, and occupation.
In a dizzying turn of recent events, we have all witnessed the collapse of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac mortgage providers, investment banks Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns, and insurer American International Group (AIG), and other companies. So far, at least eleven banks have filed for bankruptcy this year. The case of the AIG bailout is particularly curious as Merrill Lynch was denied taxpayer largesse. I wonder if AIG was the selected company for bailout because of its relationship to the U.S. intelligence community and what others would discover if AIG's books were opened in an audit. The last person to get close to AIG and its shady operations was Eliott Spitzer.
But some more fundamental issues must be explored here, relating to the underlying assumptions that have guided U.S. political and economic activity, particularly over the last eight years.
The Bush Administration's "anything goes, just don't get caught" attitude has set the tone for what we are witnessing today. To be sure these problems didn't start in January of 2001, but they sure were allowed to accelerate during the George W. Bush Administration. For example, what tone was set when the Administration shipped $12 billion to Paul Bremer's provisional
government in Iraq in cash on wooden pallets for Iraq reconstruction? No wonder $9 billion of it was "lost." What I'm constantly reminded of is that the money didn't just vanish, somebody got it. Now it's up to us to find out who!
However, the Administration's blatant disregard for good governance, the rule of law, standards of moral and ethical conduct, and even etiquette, when coupled with a laissez-faire, "go-along-to-get-along" attitude from Congress meant that no holes were barred and no hands were on the deck--a sure prescription for disaster.
In my reading over the course of the last few years, I had to become somewhat conversant with the language of the new economy: bundled mortgages, securitization, SPEs, SIVs, derivatives. But in addition to the old concepts that always seemed to be with us--predatory lending, redlining, no affordable housing amid "the housing bubble,"-- it soon became clear that basically folks had figured out a way to make money off of a ticking time bomb. Kind of like prisons for profit.
And even though the Enron scandal was supposed to have cleaned up a lot of this, unfortunately, even Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac regularly engaged in some of these practices and that's why you and I own them today. I believe it is true that the very foundations of the U.S. economy and conventional political behavior have been shaken. Now is not the time for business as usual.
And although this is by no ways exhaustive, here are a few things that I think the Democratic-led Congress could work on now instead of adjourning:
1. enactment of a foreclosure moratorium now before the next phase of ARM interest rate increases take effect;
2. elimination of all ARM mortgages and their renegotiation into 30- or 40-year loans;
3. establishment of new mortgage lending practices to end predatory and discriminatory practices;
4. establishment of criteria and construction goals for affordable housing;
5. redefinition of credit and regulation of the credit industry so that discriminatory practices are completely eliminated;
6. full funding for initiatives that eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in home ownership;
7. recognition of shelter as a right according to the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights to which the U.S. is a signatory so that no one sleeps on U.S. streets;
8. full funding of a fund designed to cushion the job loss and provide for retraining of those at the bottom of the income scale as the economy transitions;
9. close all tax loopholes and repeal of the Bush tax cuts for the top 1% of income earners;
10. fairly tax corporations, denying federal subsidies to those who relocate jobs overseas repeal NAFTA.
And since the Congress plans to adjourn early and leave these problems to The Federal Reserve, The Federal Reserve should operate in the interests of the U.S. taxpayer and not the interests of the private, international bankers that it currently represents. This, of course means that The Federal Reserve, too, must undergo a fundamental ownership and mission change.
This crisis does not have to be treated as merely a "market correction," or the result of a few rotten apples in an otherwise pristine barrel. This crisis truly represents the opportunity to introduce fundamental changes in the way the U.S. economy and its political stewards operate.
Responsible political leadership demands that the pain and suffering being experienced by the innocent today not be revisited upon them or the next generation tomorrow. But sadly, instead of affirmative action being taken in this direction, the Bush Administration ratchets up the drumbeat for war, Republican Party operatives busily remove duly-registered voters from the voter rolls, and our elected leaders in the Congress go home to campaign while leaving all of us to fend for ourselves. For the Administration and the Democrat-led Congress, I declare: MISSION UNACCOMPLISHED.

if anybody needs
some fancy ass clothes and shoes let me know what to do with them. I would like to help a non profit stay in business, esp. if they have jobs to help people...let me know what to do with these clothes...i thought about a garage sale, but i would rather give them to people at the bottom than sell them to people at the top...they are all designer originals and shit like that...let me know!
