*97 per cent of people living on Pine Ridge live BELOW the poverty

*Life expectancy is 48 for men and 52 for women
*Pine Ridge family members' chance of getting diabetes is EIGHT TIMES the national average.

At this site you will find several organizations that are helping to try to eliminate some of the extreme poverty there. ( also look on Roseanne blog page for more listings of the other organizations she is helping)
Before Oprah opened her elaborate girl's school in Africa she said she would have tried to do the same here in this country but the students didn't seem eager to learn and they were only materialistic. Evidently she didn't look at Pine Ridge or other Native American communities especially the Lakota College who is struggling for financial help and is the only Native college around the area. Makes you wonder sometimes about people's motives for their so called help.
