American comedian Roseanne Barr’s campaign for presidential election in 2012, on behalf of the Californian Peace and Freedom Party, has been preserved in film.
It follows the Barr, who is best known for her self-titled show, as she tried to break the system.
In the two-and-a-half-minute clip she pokes fun at the big parties ruling the US, calls for marijuana to be legalised, and asks: “Can an intelligent woman win a really rigged system? We’ll find out.”

“Roseanne for President!” follows Roseanne Barr’s 2012 Presidential campaign on the “Green Tea Party” ticket, in which she advocated, among other positions, for the legalization of marijuana and the return of the guillotine as capital punishment. Barr’s campaign received a divided response from the public, with some claiming that it was a publicity stunt approaching performance art, while others argued that it was a genuine attempt to reach the highest office in the country. She eventually lost to candidate Jill Stein, but Barr later announced she would run on the Peace and Freedom Party. By the end of her campaign, Barr received over 65,000 votes nationwide. The film, which follows Barr’s unsuccessful 2012 campaign for president, premiered at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival. As the trailer proves, Barr’s campaign was a serious one, though that doesn’t mean she could no longer make people laugh.
